I had so much fun experimenting with my waffle maker and also finding new and unconventional ways to use it as well!

My Amazing GE Rotating Flip Waffle Iron

I just received a GE Rotating Flip Waffle Iron as a gift at my Bridal Shower. I've never owned a waffle iron before, so I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I am extremely impressed with this waffle maker.

I have found that this particular waffle iron is very easy to use and cooks very quickly. Most importantly, waffle batter doesn't stick to the iron, even without cooking spray, which makes it a dream to clean! However, I did find that some thicker batters for breads or cakes do stick without cooking spray, but I don't consider that a huge set back.

When it comes to cleaning, even at one point when I did have sticking issues with a thicker batter, it was still easy to clean off of the irons. I just took a small brush with soft tassels and gently cleaned the irons and the stuck on batter just crumbled right off.

I have been having so much fun with this waffle iron. I did some research on unique waffle recipes and alternative uses for this wonderful appliance, and have tried out a handful of them. Read on to see some of my waffle iron experiments and to find more crazy and unique recipes as well.

Waffles for Breakfast

Frosted Cinnamon Roll Waffles

As I was searching out easy and fun recipes for my new waffle iron, I ran across the idea of making canned cinnamon roll waffles on multiple websites. I figured since so many people recommend it, why not give it a try?!

I really loved this breakfast recipe. The whole process was super easy and very quick. Plus, making the cinnamon rolls into waffles was much quicker than baking them!

Rather than making one large cinnamon roll waffle, once the waffled cinnamon rolls came out of the iron, I broke them into four pieces. This made them much more manageable and easier to eat.

Take a look at the pictures below for step by step directions to make this easy and yummy breakfast.

These cinnamon roll waffles were as tasty as they are pretty! This recipe has one ingredient and it comes prepackaged: a can of cinnamon rolls! I used jumbo sized rolls, but the regular sized rolls work too.Spray your waffle iron with cooking spray and place two jumbo rolls in the waffle maker and close the lid. Cooking time varies by waffle maker.I tried putting 3 jumbo rolls in the waffle iron and it caused batter to ooze out the side. If you are using the jumbo rolls, only cook 2 at a time.Lift waffles out of the waffle iron and cut into triangles. Use a butter knife to spread the frosting that comes in the cinnamon roll can on top.

Leftover Chili & Spicy Red Pepper Cornbread Waffles

I got my inspiration for this meal from Paula Deen's Cornbread Waffles with Spicy Chili recipe. I went grocery shopping with the intentions to pick up ingredients to make her Cornbread, like Paula does. However, I stumbled across Baker's Corner Cajun Cornbread Mix with Spicy Red Pepper at my local Aldi and I just couldn't resist! Sorry Paula!

I really enjoyed this recipe. It was unbelievably easy, fast, and super tasty. Even better, this recipe gave me an excuse to use up the rest of that leftover chili in the fridge!

Waffles for Dessert

Red Velvet Cake & Ice Cream Sandwiches

During my last trip to the grocery store, I saw Red Velvet Cake Mix on sale for a quarter...so of course, I bought a few boxes! I knew I could find something fun to make.

While searching for some waffle dessert ideas to make in my handy, dandy new waffle iron, I ran across a recipe for Cake Ice Cream Sandwich Waffles.

Of course, I changed this recipe up a bit by using Red Velvet, but it is just as delicious, believe me. One huge benefit about this recipe is that these cake batter waffles cook WAY faster than baking a cake in the oven.

I also made extra Cake and Ice Cream Sandwiches and placed them in the freezer for easy to grab ice cream treats. See my photos below to join me in some dessert fun!

March 25th is International Waffle Day!

"Waffle Day" actually came about as a misunderstanding. March 25th in Sweden is actually VÃ¥rfrudagen, which means Lady Day (a Christian Holiday.) This word ended up being mispronounced as VÃ¥ffeldagen, which means "Waffle Day" and the idea just stuck!

Thus, it became a custom for Swedes to celebrate the Feast of Annunciation on Lady Day with waffles.
